Women's dj workshop

Instructors DJ Donna Lovejoy and Fazooli run a seasonal introductory DJ workshop designed exclusively for women and non-binary/gender-creative individuals a few times a year. Learn the basics of analogue (vinyl) DJing, including the anatomy of a technical DJ setup, a brief history of DJ culture, as well as technical skills such as simple beat-matching and song transitions, amongst many different musical genres. This fun and informative workshop offers the opportunity for hands-on training in a safe, non-intimidating, and supportive group setting. By the end of the workshop, you will be inspired to dig deeper into the world of DJing! Workshops were first held at Dr.Disc (upstairs), located at 20 Wilson Street, right at the heart of Downtown Hamilton, on Tuesdays from 7-9pm, at a cost of $50/per student. A Nightclub Workshop was available also, so you could learn on a big sound system at Club Absinthe, located at 38 King William Street in Hamilton from 7-9pm, at a cost of $50/per student.

FUTURE WORKSHOPS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE WORKS - so stay tuned or contact us to be on a mailing list to find out when the next ones will be held!

raw beats @ jnaag

I was in Sarnia at the Judith & Norman Art Gallery this July teaching a workshop just for teens, aged 14-18! I was showing the basics of DJing in an intensive 4 day workshop, running from July 17-20th, and we had a total blast! Participants aged 11-16 learned all about the history of DJing, technical introductions with the equipment so they can hook up full sound systems on their own and understand safety requirements, DJ etiquette, how to throw your own party, and basic mixing techniques such as the straight fade, cutting, kills,  beat matching, rewind, as well as a bit of scratching! We also developed our own DJ personas with DJ names and logos. Our last day was reserved for a mini-show, where participants picked out records for a 20 minute set, and created a show from start to finish! What an amazing summer learning experience!

Skateboard art workshops

I was fortunate enough to work with some really amazing young people in December of 2018, showing them the unlimited creative possibilities of designing their very own skateboard decks! Thanks so much to @celynartsco for having me join in on this specific workshop - she does some truly amazing work with the youth and keeping those hands and minds busy with great projects! ❤️

If your organization wants to host a skateboard art workshop, contact me anytime and we can chat about it! I’d be happy to join you!
